Inquiry, sometimes called scientific inquiry, is a teaching model designed to give students experience with the scientific method.
Reflection Of in-class MOdel
The Elementary presentation of the inquiry model was well planned ,and the group clearly stated instructions of the experiment to the class. They also gave the students extra time to finish these specific steps. This group was interrupted by the students having to go to P.E and did a great job of handling the students when they returned and carrying out the rest of their lesson plan. They followed the structure of the Inquiry model well by completing the phases of presenting the problem, hypothesizing, gathering data, and analyzing their hypothesis.I would have been more careful with the using of all the materials and waited until needed to have then passed out so the students were not distracted and playing with them.
LEsson PLans and reflection
The first lesson plan demonstrating inquiry was on exploring life in the amazon. The Hypothesis was formed from the question of why is it important to preserve the rainforest. The students then gathered data on the different plants and animals and possible threats to the rainforest. I liked how the kids wrote down their research results on note cards. This lesson plan follows along with the Inquiry phases very well and has easy guidelines to follow. If I was teaching this lesson I would probably bring in some different pictures of plants and animals in the rainforest. I would also hold some sort of discussion about the different things that we have seen and learned about the rainforest.
The second lesson plan for Inquiry was a science lesson based on the observation of five different types of soil. The students are asked to make a logical guess as to where the five soils were taken from. I liked how this lesson plan included group work and collaborating with other students to gather the data and make a hypothesis. It deviation from the model a little and led towards the discussion model because their is a section where students may debate back and forth about their results. I like the inclusion of debating and comparing hypotheses. I would like to use this lesson plan in my classroom because it is very hands on and is an interesting activity that will keep students engaged.
